After the poor summer weather last year, it is a relief to see butterflies in large numbers around Sculpture by the Lakes this month. It will be interesting to hear the results of this year’s Big Butterfly Count which ends on 10th August. The Brimstones have chosen the lychnis flowers in the kitchen garden as their favourite nectar source. Meanwhile, the Red Admirals have been seen in high numbers on the buddleia along the Butterfly Walk.

Other butterflies, such as the Painted Lady, have enjoyed the wildflowers.

Moths too, have been in abundance with another trap of over 50 species on the last Wednesday of the month.
