Join our Wildlife Officer\, Rebecca Porter for this special tour of the diverse lichens we have around the park. She will introduce you to the three main structural types; foliose (leafy)\, fruticose (bushy) and crustose (crusty) as well as several more unusual forms. Then\, how to identify which of several strategies each lichen uses to reproduce the all important partnership will be covered as well as other identification features. We are a Site of Nature Conservation Interest for our dragonflies due to the fact half the UK species are believed to breed here. The adult dragonflies are monitored every week during the summer but we have never looked for the larvae during the underwater part of their life cycle or indeed at the diversity of other smaller insect larvae they may feed on.
