SUMMARY:Sound Baths at Sculpture by the Lakes
DESCRIPTION: \n \nNourishing the Mind\, Body and Soul\n  \nWe are running a series of Sound Baths in The Retreat at Sculpture by the Lakes. These sessions incorporate a range of sound instruments\, including Himalayan bowls\, wind gongs\, crystal bowls\, Koshi chimes\, and shamanic drums\, which have a unique ability to relax and calm the nervous system. This can bring your mind into alpha and theta brainwave patterns\, which is the restful\, creative states. \nSound enters the healing equation from several directions: it may alter cellular function through energetic effects; it may entrain biological systems to function more homeostatically; it may calm the mind and\, therefore\, the body; or it may have emotional effects that influence neurotransmitters and neuropeptides\, which in turn help regulate the immune system\, the healer within. \n  \n\n \n \n  \n“Simon’s sound bath was an incredible journey into deep relaxation and healing. At one point\, I completely lost awareness of my body—truly profound! His beautiful use of Himalayan singing bowls (my favourites)\, especially around and over my body\, created a profound sense of calm and rest. The integration of various instruments\, each serving a unique purpose in the sound bath\, left me feeling weightless by the end. I walked away feeling serene\, rejuvenated\, and completely restored.” – Ali P. \n“Simon’s sound bath was a powerful exploration into deep rest and healing. As a facilitator I have experienced many sound journeys\, this experience was exceptional. I felt safe\, gently held and deeply nurtured.” – Pip T. \n“A wonderful serene player\, Gentle like a hummingbird….  A man who knows his Singing bowls… Simon respectfully listens to the vibrations of sound and intuitively connects with them… my body floated and I shed a tear of gratitude full of love for the world.” – Dianne G. \n  \n \n  \nThe price for these sessions includes entrance to the Sculpture Park for the day\, apart from our evening Sound Baths. All tickets are non – refundable; however\, you’re very welcome to transfer your place to a friend or family member if you’re unable to attend.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Book here

SUMMARY:Shifting Perceptions
DESCRIPTION:A Restorative Day Retreat with 100 Reflections on Life as it Is\n  \nYou don’t need a new life to feel different.\n  \nYou need a new way of seeing the life you already have.\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Join us for a gentle\, transformative day inspired by Simon Gudgeon’s beautiful new book\, 100 Reflections on Life as it Is. Through short\, powerful reflections on perspective\, peace\, and everyday life\, we’ll explore a simple but profound truth: when we change how we see things\, our experience of life changes — without the need to fix or overhaul ourselves. \nThis is not a workshop about becoming someone new. It’s an invitation to notice the lens you’re already looking through… and to gently soften or shift it. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n What the Day Offers\n  \nMorning: Awakening Through Perspective\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n We begin with a warm welcome and grounding\, then move into guided exploration of carefully chosen reflections from the book. You’ll be supported to notice your current ways of seeing\, journal gently\, and share in small groups if you wish. \nA short\, accessible breathwork session helps create inner spaciousness\, followed by mindful movement and a beautiful group humming practice — a vibrational way of moving beyond individual perception into shared resonance. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Lunch\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n A nourishing\, mindful break with time to rest\, reflect\, or simply be. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Afternoon: Deep Rest & Integration\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n We sink into restorative Yoga Nidra — a guided practice of non-sleep deep rest that allows the morning’s insights to settle into the body and nervous system. This is followed by a deeply soothing sound bath\, where vibrational sound supports release and integration at a profound level. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Who This Retreat Is For?\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n This day is ideal if you: \n– Feel ready for a softer\, more compassionate relationship with your mind \n– Want to explore how small shifts in perspective can change how life feels \n– Are drawn to the wisdom in 100 Reflections on Life as it Is \n– Would love a restorative day that combines gentle reflection with deep rest (Yoga Nidra + sound bath) \n– Appreciate a non-striving\, spacious atmosphere \nNo prior experience with meditation\, breathwork\, or the book is needed — just an open heart and a willingness to see differently. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n The Setting\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Held in the tranquil surroundings of Sculpture by the Lakes\, the day is designed to feel like a sanctuary — spacious\, nurturing\, and beautifully held. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Practical Details\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Saturday 25th July \n9.30am – 4.30pm \n£175 \nLimited spaces participants for an intimate experience \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n “Most of what shapes our experience of life is not what happens… but how we see it.” \n— from the introduction to 100 Reflections on Life as it Is\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n If you’re ready to return to the life you already have — and see it with fresh eyes — we would love to welcome you. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Book here

SUMMARY:Lunar Retreats
DESCRIPTION:Join us for a series of enchanting evenings celebrating the moon’s magic! Immerse yourself in a cacao ceremony\, sipping rich\, heart-opening cacao as we set intentions under the dark sky\, embracing fresh beginnings. Feel the pulse of connection in our drum circle—bring your own or use ours—as rhythmic beats unite us\, shaking loose old energy. Then\, surrender to a sound bath\, where crystal bowls and gongs weave a sonic tapestry\, washing away tension and aligning you with the lunar cycle. This is more than an event; it’s a journey of renewal\, grounded in nature’s rhythm. No experience needed—just an open heart. Hosted in a serene outdoor space and The Retreat\, these nights promise warmth\, community\, and transformation. \n\n\n  \nNew Moon\nThe new moon carries deep holistic significance\, harmonising body\, mind\, and spirit in its quiet\, dark embrace. As the lunar cycle’s starting point\, it’s a potent time for renewal\, inviting introspection and the planting of intentions. Physically\, its subtle gravitational shift can foster a sense of calm or fatigue\, aligning with the body’s need for rest and reset. Mentally\, the new moon encourages stillness\, offering a blank slate to release old patterns and envision fresh goals. Spiritually\, it symbolises beginnings— a void rich with potential—celebrated in rituals like cacao ceremonies or drumming that ground and inspire. Across cultures\, it’s a moment to connect with nature’s rhythms\, honouring the unseen forces of growth. Holistically\, the new moon balances surrender and creation\, urging us to trust the process as we nurture seeds of change in the fertile darkness before the waxing light emerges. \n\n  \n\nFull Moon\nThe full moon holds profound holistic significance\, uniting body\, mind\, and spirit in its luminous embrace. Energetically\, it marks the peak of the lunar cycle\, amplifying emotions\, intuition\, and inner clarity. In many traditions\, it’s a time for culmination—harvesting intentions set at the new moon and releasing what no longer serves. Physically\, its gravitational pull subtly influences tides and bodily fluids\, often heightening sensitivity or restlessness\, as noted in anecdotal reports of sleep disruption. Mentally\, the full moon invites reflection\, illuminating hidden thoughts or patterns under its bright gaze. Spiritually\, it’s a beacon of connection—to nature\, community\, and the cosmos—celebrated in rituals like cacao ceremonies or sound baths that deepen presence. Holistically\, it’s a moment to balance yin and yang: embracing both light and shadow\, action and surrender\, as the moon mirrors life’s cycles of growth and renewal. \n\n  \n\n  \n  \nCacao Ceremony\nWe will gather around a fire (weather permitting) for a Cacao Ceremony and Drum Circle. (Drums will be provided or you can bring your own) \nThe benefits of participating in a cacao ceremony are manifold. Here are just a few of the transformative effects that this sacred ritual can bring: \n1. Heart-opening and emotional healing: Cacao’s unique properties can help individuals release emotional blockages\, heal past traumas\, and cultivate self-love\, forgiveness\, and empathy. \n2. Enhanced creativity and intuition: By quieting the mind and stimulating the brain\, cacao ceremonies encourage individuals to tap into their innate creativity\, intuition\, and higher consciousness. \n3. Connection and community: The shared experience of a cacao ceremony fosters a profound sense of unity and connection among participants\, promoting a deep appreciation for the interconnectedness of all life. \n4. Stress reduction and relaxation: The calming effects of cacao\, combined with the soothing elements of the ceremony\, can alleviate stress and anxiety\, allowing participants to sink into a state of deep relaxation. \n\n  \n\nDrum Circle\nA drum circle is a communal gathering where we play shamanic drums and percussion instruments in a rhythmic\, often improvised flow. Rooted in ancient traditions across many cultures\, drum circles are used for celebration\, healing\, and community bonding. They can be facilitated by a leader or entirely spontaneous\, creating a shared\, meditative musical experience. \nOne of the primary benefits of a drum circle is stress relief and emotional expression. The repetitive\, rhythmic drumming helps induce a meditative state\, reducing anxiety and promoting relaxation. The physical act of drumming also allows participants to release built-up emotions\, fostering a sense of emotional freedom. \nDrumming has been shown to support physical health by improving coordination\, boosting the immune system\, and even reducing blood pressure. The rhythmic vibrations stimulate the brain\, enhancing focus\, concentration\, and cognitive function. \nOn a deeper level\, drum circles encourage social connection and unity. Drumming together synchronises heartbeats and breathing patterns\, fostering a sense of belonging and shared energy. It breaks down social barriers\, creating an inclusive space for self-expression. \nSpiritually\, drum circles can be grounding and empowering\, helping individuals feel more connected to themselves\, others\, and the present moment. Whether for healing\, creativity\, or joy\, drum circles offer a powerful and transformative experience. \n\n\n  \nSound Bath\nWe will then move into the Retreat to immerse yourself in the soothing vibrations of a healing sound bath\, where the therapeutic tones of singing bowls\, gongs\, and other sacred instruments will wash over you. This enchanting auditory experience will ease physical tension\, calm your mind\, and leave you feeling balanced and harmonized on every level. \nOur evening retreat offers a truly transformative journey of self-discovery and renewal\, integrating ancient wisdom with modern practices to provide a comprehensive experience like no other. Reserve your spot today and prepare to embrace a new level of personal growth\, well-being\, and inner harmony. \n  \nAll tickets are non-refundable; however\, you’re very welcome to transfer your place to a friend or family member if you’re unable to attend.\n  \n  \nReserve your place here:

SUMMARY:Summer Fruit Tree Pruning Workshop with John Cunningham
DESCRIPTION:Summer pruning of fruit trees is as important as winter pruning. Summer is the time to clear out non-fruiting wood from apple and pear trees\, but also to look at pruning stone fruit trees like cherries and plums. \nIn this one day workshop we will go through all the different aspects of summer fruit tree care\, from the correct tools to use and how to look after them\, right through to the cuts themselves\, with practical work on the trees that grow in the Kitchen Garden at Sculpture by the Lakes. \nOur tutor for this workshop is John Cunningham. \nTrained at The Royal Botanical Gardens\, Edinburgh\, and a qualified designer\, John specialises in pruning and garden development for private clients. He has planted over 60 Royal Horticultural Society and International Show gardens over the past 30 years and has judged for the RHS since 2013. He shares his knowledge with humour and passion. \nYou can bring your own secateurs if you would like but please ensure they are sharp and are clean and disinfected before you arrive. You will need to bring your own lunch\, or you can book a table with The Kitchen on kitchen@sculpturebythelakes.co.uk \nArrival is from 10am and the course starts at 10.30am. We break for lunch at 12pm and resume at 1pm finishing at 4pm. \n  \nReserve your place here:\n  \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Book Here

SUMMARY:Yoga Nidra and Sound Bath
DESCRIPTION: \nNourishing the Mind\, Body and Soul\n  \nYoga Nidra\, often referred to as “yogic sleep\,” is an ancient technique that induces a state of deep relaxation while maintaining conscious awareness. This practice has gained significant recognition for its ability to influence brainwave activity and promote numerous physical and mental health benefits. \nYoga Nidra is a guided meditation rooted in ancient yogic traditions that follows a systematic relaxation process. Researchers who have studied it have found that the brain goes into a unique state where it is asleep\, while we’re actually awake and conscious. Apart from being deeply relaxing\, being in this state also unlocks several mental\, physical\, and emotional benefits. \nSound enters the healing equation from several directions: It may alter cellular functions through energetic effects; it may entrain biological systems to function more homeostatically; it may becalm the mind and therefore the body; or it may have emotional effects\, which influence neurotransmitters and neuropeptides\, which in turn help to regulate the immune system—the healer within. \n  \n \n \nLet the sound carry you into peace\nLet the stillness remind you what truly matters\n  \nStay afterwards for tea in The pantry\, a peaceful walk through the gardens\, or browse our Store for soulful\, handcrafted gifts. \n  \nLimited places – please book early to reserve your mat. \nThe price for these sessions includes entrance to the Sculpture Park for the day\, apart from our evening Sound Baths. All tickets are non – refundable; however\, you’re very welcome to transfer your place to a friend or family member if you’re unable to attend.\n \n  \n“Simon’s sound bath was an incredible journey into deep relaxation and healing. He also teaches others how to make and play traditional instruments with strong emphasis on the instruments history\, spiritual significance and importance. \nAs a testament to his ancestral lineage\, Dr Koela continues the traditions of a long line of instrumentalists\, diviners and healers (amaGqirha namaXhwele) within his family\, carrying forward the rich musical and spiritual heritage of the San\, Bantu and Nguni peoples. He has released four Afro-spiritual collections of dreamscapes and sound journeys: Inkaba (2018)\, Embo Ethongweni (2021)\, InKungu and InGuqu (2023). \n(60) Indigenous Frequency Cast – YouTube \nDr Miche Fabre Lewin – A White woman\, born on Zimbabwean soil\, Miche Fabre Lewin has French and Jewish heritage. Her devotional vocation is rooted in a passion for art\, ecology\, food\, and liberatory processes.  As an artist-of-the-becoming\, Miche’s body of work embodies a profound re-membering of ‘rta’\, the Sanskrit root of art\, artisan and ritual.  This concept evokes how our humanness is in continuous evolution within a participatory and wholly interdependent cosmos. These interwoven threads manifest through her co-creating with sentience of matter\, living processes\, recycled and found materials – all in respect of the genius of place and people. Through her pioneering work as part of her doctoral research with Coventry University she has contributed the concept of ‘sympoiethics’ as a life-affirming ethos and practice of making-with our animate world. mfl \nDeep Soup has its source in healthy living soil and is a collaboration with spirit of place. Prepared by hand from fresh plant harvests rich in vital nutrients and flavours of the season\, this is a soup to tantalise the senses and deepen our connection to earth ecologies.  All the ingredients will be sourced from our own Kitchen Garden where we grow our food using the no-dig method to maintain a healthy soil structure. We also do not use any artificial chemicals or fertiliser. \nEaten in slow spacious time we relish and reawaken our tastebuds to knowing that vital food is our medicine. \nWe are in and of nature-cultures.  Everyday every mouthful we make an impact on our food and farming cultures. Let this be harmonising not harmful. \nDeep Soup is a thanksgiving\, an invocation to reanimating the power of earth-based ritual to re-member our roots within the sacred and elemental rhythms of the cosmos. Deep Soup is a hearth and rekindles joy. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Book Here
